TAKE OUR SONS AND DAUGHTERS TO WORK DAY WITH THE CENTURY COUNCIL
On Thursday, April 23rd I was able to be a part of a great event on Capitol Hill in honor of Take Our
Daughters and Sons to Work Day. The event was hosted by The Century Council, a national
not-for-profit dedicated to fighting drunk driving and underage drinking, and PE4life, a non-profit
dedicated to inspiring active, healthy living by advancing the development of quality, daily physical
education programs for all children. By coming together, these two organizations are getting a
very important message out to kids- stay healthy and active which includes saying 'no' to
underage drinking and I was honored to be apart of it.

I'm proud of my work on the court but my work off the court is one of the most rewarding aspects of being an NBA player. Be it a parent, a community leader, an athlete, or even a big brother or sister, kids thrive when they have strong role models. Strong role models set expectations in a community regarding what is expected of our young people. Community involvement instills a strong work ethic in young kids as well as encourages them to set goals. This involvement increases as kids reach middle school and high school as their potential for risky behavior increases. Parents, community leaders, and those of us in positions to be role models have a responsibility to lead by example and we must all do more to encourage our nation's youth to live healthy and active lives.
