Twan Sponsors March Madness for Third Straight Year
Charlotte, NC – On Saturday, March 18, Charlotte native and NBA All-Star Antawn Jamison sponsored the Right Moves For Youth Basketball, Cheering and Step Tournament for the third consecutive year. The event was held at the Phillip O. Berry High School of Technology in Charlotte. There was an estimated 1100 people who showed up for this year's event. The Charlotte Bobcats sent their Rally Cats, who were completely blown away by the performances of the kids. They were supposed to stay for a short while but decided to stay through the end of the day. They acted as judges for the competitions along with a local doctor and former college cheerleader. The former cheerleader actually cried when she saw the commitment the kids put into their routines and the heart they displayed during the games.
The winners for the competitions were as follows:
High School basketball: East Mecklenburg High defeated Phillip O. Berry High
Middle School basketball: Piedmont Middle defeated Smith All-Stars
Elementary Basketball: Windsor Park defeated Hornets Nest
Both HS and ES games were decided in the last 5 seconds of each game. The Elementary school game was decided in the last 1.3 seconds!
Cheerleading: Middle School Winner: Chemical Dependency Center - Girl Power
Elementary Winner: Morehead Elementary
Step: Middle School Winner: Piedmont Middle
Elementary Winner: Hornets Nest Elementary
Both the cheer and step top three scores were only differentiated by one point.
A new element was added to this year's tournament - the All Jamison Team (AJT). Certain participants were named to the All-Jamison Team and received certificates and medals during the awards ceremony.
New medals were ordered that looked like the medals given out during the Olympics. The kids were so thrilled and appreciative!
