Antawn Jamison Continues to Make Christmas Brighter Back Home in Charlotte
Charlotte, NC – On Tuesday, December 20, Charlotte native and NBA All-Star Antawn Jamison provided 300 pairs of shoes for the men at the Uptown Shelter for the fourth consecutive year. “When George Shinn and the Hornets left Charlotte, so did the support for this shoe project,” says Jamison. “It was such a great and powerfully impacting program that I decided to adopt it and provide whatever it takes to keep it running each year.”

On Wednesday, December 21, Antawn joined forces with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Explorers Program for the third consecutive year to provide holiday packages (which included bikes, presents, holiday flowers and enough food to total 80,000 meals) to over 650 needy Charlotte families. The CM Police Explorer Project has been helping provide Christmas gifts for thousands of families for over 30 years. Antawn became involved three years ago when he was contacted and told that the project was in trouble and needed some extra financial support. “I grew up in Charlotte and it will always have a special place in my heart,” says Jamison. “Its always an easy decision to give back by providing assistance to great projects there that help improve the lives of those in need. I just wish I could be there in person to deliver the packages to each home.”
The shoe program and Explorer Project are both part of Jamison's ongoing "A Better Tomorrow" community service campaign that implements service projects in Charlotte that encourage academic success and assist citizens who are less fortunate.
Jamison is on a five-game west coast road trip (which doesn't conclude until December 24) and wasn't able to attend the events. His Community Relations manager, Livis Freeman, was present at both events on his behalf.

Jamison is enjoying another All-Star type of season with the Washington Wizards, as he is second on the team with 17.9 points and leading his team in rebounds with 10.8 per game. His 10.8 rebounds are a career-high and rank sixth in the NBA.
Antawn received the NBA's Community Assist Award in August 2003 for his efforts to better his community.
